Background

The Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA) is the founder and administrator of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance (GLAA) behalf of its member institutions, a consortium of thirteen private liberal arts colleges located in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The Global Liberal Arts Alliance is a multilateral partnership of equals intended to strengthen education in the liberal arts and sciences. FCCU is the part of 36 partner Liberal Arts Alliance spread over the world.

The Global Alliance will concertedly forge links amongst participating colleges through programs that:

  • Allow institutional leaders – particularly presidents – to address common issues that all liberal arts institutions, irrespective of location, confront in their quest to operate effectively and to prepare students to be engaged and contributing citizens.
  • Develop the expertise of faculty members and administrators, augment academic and nonacademic programs, improve the way colleges operate, and enhance the success of Alliance institutions; and
  • Promote international understanding and enhance discussion concerning the economic, political, social, intercultural, and other challenges facing societies where Alliance colleges are located

Global Course Connections “connects” a course offered on an Alliance campus in one country to a course offered on an Alliance campus in another country, providing the courses with an authentic international dimension they would not otherwise have. Globally connected courses need not be the same course or even from the same discipline; what matters is that the courses provide different national/cultural perspectives on one or more themes present in both courses.
