Description:

Liberal Arts seen as the Savior of Higher Education, flourishes on every continent. Liberal Arts Education (LAE) is considered predominantly American/Western, but traditional models—Graeco-Roman, Chinese, the Indian subcontinent, and Islamic—have been essentially similar in approach.

In this session, we will try to assimilate substantives (i.e., philosophy, curriculum, pedagogy, administration, and learning context) and organizational elements of liberal arts education that are aligned with our own unique political-socio-cultural context alongside shared global values. The session will focus on curriculum design issues in the LAE in South Asian institutes. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to assess our own curriculum with reference to a 13-step protocol based on the book “Empowering Students to Improve the World in Sixty Lessons by FM Reimers.
